South East Northumberland Liberal Democrats are pleased to announce Stephen Psallidas as their candidate for the upcoming General Election.
Stephen is 49 years old, was born on Tyneside and lives in Newcastle upon Tyne. He works full time at Nexus, the public transport organisation, as a Project Manager on the engineering side of the Metro. In his spare time he enjoys cycling, photography and travel.
Stephen was a popular Liberal Democrat councillor in Newcastle for 14 years, with a reputation for community activism, before standing down in 2016.
Stephen has previously worked in Pegswood and knows the Wansbeck area well and the issues it faces. His main areas of policy interest are achieving a sustainable economy, including promoting green jobs, renewable energy and transport, including bus and rail links like the Blyth and Tyne line.
Stephen is strongly opposed to Brexit, which will (according to the Government's own figures) cause significant job losses in Wansbeck constituency, which already has above-average unemployment.

Stephen commented:
"I'm very pleased to be standing to be the MP for Wansbeck Constituency. This is a very diverse, historic and beautiful area of countryside and coastline. However there are also many issues including areas of poverty and unemployment, limited public transport, limited access to healthcare, and environmental issues like flooding. As your MP I would do my level best to tackle these, both locally and at Westminster. Wansbeck has been neglected by both Labour and the Conservatives for far too long - it's time for a change!"
